Modern Foreign Language: Intent
The intent of our MFL curriculum is to provide children with a deeper understanding of other languages and allow them opportunities to speak, write, read and sing in this language. Through MFL lessons we want to encourage our students to have a greater curiosity for the world around them and prepare them for further language learning at KS3.
Details of our MFL Curriculum: to be adapted depending on additional languages (Spanish/Mandarin)
-
Children learn French from Year 2 to Year 6 in a weekly lesson, which is between 30 minutes and 1 hour long.
-
To ensure children have the correct pronunciation taught to them, some year groups use videoed lessons produced by French-speaking members of staff. These are used alongside the class teacher supporting the lesson.
Language learning will not only be confined to a weekly French lesson but instead be evident in theme days, clubs, assemblies and our annual celebration of the contribution of refugees during Refugee week.
